At the end of the last century the attention of scientists was drawn by proteins-sirtuiny when it became clear that these molecules have impact on life expectancy, both the person, and animals. After that biologists carried out a large number of researches in the course of which didn't find out, whether make protective influence sirtuins on organism cages.
The group of scientists of university of the city of Ramat Gan Bar-Ilana, headed by Haim Cohen (Haim Cohen), made experiment during which compared life expectancy of ordinary mice and mice, whose cages twice bigger allocated sirtuins SIRT6.
In the previous researches authors established that sharp restriction of a daily food allowance of mice led to the increased synthesis of molecules of protein Sirtuin because it is required for correct "reading" of genes and for DNA "repair". At those mice into which genome inserted the "doubled" version of this gene, actually it wasn't observed obesity and violations of exchange processes.
The group of researchers led by Cohen grew up some populations of mice which had the additional copy of a gene, and wild rodents, whose ancestors scientific community recognized as long-livers. Rodents lived in the conditions habitual for their habitat, having a free access to water and food. After death of a rodent scientists, fixing death date, took samples of blood and fabrics.
The result of experiment was the following. The increased quantity sirtuin in cages of mice increased life expectancy of males of those populations into which genome scientists inserted an additional gene of SIRT6. Average life expectancy increased for 10-17% in comparison with wild rodents. Thus the period of life of females remained the same.
Scientists allocated 11 genes on which work had impact the increased concentration sirtuin. The key metabolic system of the organism which control is exercised by genes from family of insulin factors of growth (IGF1) underwent the greatest changes. Apparently, system reorganization when in fatty tissues of males energy stocks collected, led to additional months of life.
According to scientists, this research proves influence sirtuins on life expectancy of mammals. Change of concentration of this protein in human cages can become in the future of one of opportunities of treatment of senile diseases and prolong human life.
